I finally got around to seeing the new Trek movie (took Dad on Father's Day). I really liked it. Sure it had its flaws, but on the whole it was enjoyable.
Things I loved...
- Scotty. Hi-larious.
- Bones. Too awesome. And Karl Urban nailed the essence of the character.
- Glimpses into everyday life in the Trek world, like building the starship or the cop. Made the world seem more grounded.
- Special effects rocked.
Things I was lukewarm about...
- Touchy-feely Spock.
- Annoying Kirk.
- Cadets save the day. Yeah I know they tried to handwave it away with "OMG the fleet is busy!" but it was just a bit silly and contrived.
- The whole Romulan revenge plot. Just seemed rather bizarre.
Things I hated...
- Cadet promoted straight to Captain. Irk.
